In order to obtain medicinal marijuana, a patient must purchase it from a Licensed Producer. There are many Licensed Producers across Canada that a patient can choose to register with. In order to register with a Licensed Producer, a patient must have authorization from a doctor in the form of a Medical Document (ie. prescription)

The service we provide is the doctor’s authorization portion of the process. We help to arrange the appropriate paperwork, schedule an appointment with a doctor willing to review the file and complete the Medical Document if they feel it is appropriate, and send all required paperwork to the producer of the patient’s choice.

How often can I order from the LP?

You may only order up to a one month supply at a time. If you run out before the month is over, you must wait until the end of the month cycle to order again. However, you do not have to order every single month if you do not need to (if it lasts 6 weeks, you can wait until that time to order)

What kind of supporting documentation are you looking for? What qualifies?

We are looking for any documentation that represents your diagnosis or conditions. Essentially, the doctor here is not doing a full assessment to determine a diagnosis, they are trusting the diagnosis of an alternate health care professional and we require some form of documentation to verify that. Proper documentation can be:

  1. A note from your GP stating the diagnosis, results of investigations and treatments attempted.
  2. Copies of specialists notes; or
  3. Copies of X-ray , CT scan, Ultrasound , or MRI reports

How do I obtain the supporting medical documentation?

Asking your health care practitioner for the above mentioned documentation is the simplest way to go about obtaining the documentation. We also have an Authorization for Medical Release form that we can send for you to sign and submit to your doctor.

My doctor does not support marijuana, how can I ask them for this documentation?

Your doctor does not necessarily need to know it is for marijuana purposes as many other facilities (insurance or workplace) often require similar information. It is essentially just a verification of medicinal intentions as we are unable to conduct a full assessment to determine a specific diagnosis.

Doesn’t your doctor do the diagnosis? Why do I need supporting documentation?

Unfortunately no, the doctor does not have the resources to conduct a full assessment resulting in a diagnosis as many diagnoses are complicated or in depth. They are trusting the diagnosis of an alternate health care professional to verify cannabis use is for a medicinal reason.

Is there an age requirement?

Yes. If you are under the age of 25 you must have a parent or guardian sign a consent form and they must be present during your appointment. We understand you are above the age of majority, however long term cannabis use in patients under the age of 25 may be related to reducing neural development of the brain which has not fully developed until the age of 25.

I have __________, do I qualify?

Almost any condition will technically qualify, however we do require sufficient supporting medical documentation to verify the condition in order to qualify. Ultimately, the decision is the doctor’s and we can never 100% guarantee qualification.

Will cannabis help with my __________?

We have heard positive feedback from previous patients that have found relief with medicinal cannabis of a wide variety of conditions. However we are unable to guarantee this as a treatment. It is a personal choice if you would like to pursue this avenue as an alternative option.

How long does the process take?

Typically, we have availability for appointments within two to three weeks after receiving your documentation. After your appointment it may take up to 3 weeks to be registered with the LP and begin ordering.

What if I don’t know what LP to go with? Can you tell me which one to choose?

Is there an LP in my area for me to purchase from? I can’t commute to get to any.

The LPs actually courier the product right to your door, so location is not necessarily the most important factor in choosing a producer. Technically, the LPs actually do not have stores and you are not able to walk in to any to purchase.

Can I choose more than one LP?

No. It is easier and more efficient to register with only one LP. If you are unhappy with the original LP that you have chosen then one change of LP per year without a scheduled appointment is included in the annual membership.

Does the doctor decide the dosage? How much can I get?

The dosage is determined in the appointment with the doctor, it is up to their discretion. However, the maximum you are legally allowed to be authorized is 5g per day (or 150g/month).

Does the doctor decide the strain?

The doctor does not determine which strain, that is between the patient and the LP to decide. The doctor may recommend that you order a strain higher in CBD for pain or higher in THC for conditions such as anxiety, sleep disorder, etc. However, this is just a recommendation and is ultimately decided by you. The LP has more information on the benefits of specific strains.

Can the LP send me oil or edibles?

No. The LPs are only legally allowed to send you product in the dried form. If you would like to turn this into an oil or edible on your own you are welcome to, but the doctor nor the LP are technically allowed to instruct you on how to do this.

I don’t want to purchase from a LP, can I just buy it off my friend that grows?

No. The only way to legally purchase marijuana is from a LP. If you decide to purchase from any other source, it is no longer legal.

What is required to book an appointment?

We require supporting medical documentation verifying a medical condition to which you are seeking the cannabis for. Once you have that, we will send you two intake forms from our office to complete and submit prior to your appointment. We will also require indication of which Licensed Producer that you would like to register with (or the registration application to be submit to us for shipment to the Licensed Producer with the completed Medical Document)

How do I use marijuana? What is the best method? I don’t smoke.

The best recommended form of use is a vaporizer. this has the least negative health effects. Turning the dried marijuana into an edible form is another alternative to smoking.

How do I know this is legitimate and not a scam?

We understand skepticism surrounding the services as the program is so new. We are part of a full service wellness centre that you are more than welcome to research. You may also like to contact any of the various LPs to verify that legitimate Medical Documents have been sent by our team.

How long is a Medical Document written for?

The maximum the Medical Document can be written for is one year. However, typically the doctor will like to write the document for 3 or 6 months in order to have a reassessment/follow up appointment to see how you are doing. There is no charge for a reassessment appointment.

How much does it cost to purchase the actual marijuana from the LP?

The price varies between the different LPs and different strains, it typically ranges from $6-15 per gram. You are best to contact the LP you are interested in to discuss pricing options with them.

Does my insurance plan cover my marijuana prescription?

All insurance plans are different, but typically they do not. Marijuana does not yet have a DIN (Drug Identification Number) so it is usually not covered by insurance plans but we do encourage you to inquire with your insurance company for specifics.

I already have an Authorization to Possess (ATP) so why do I need to choose an LP?

If your ATP is expiring, we cannot renew within the MMAR system. We can only enter you into the new MMPR system. If you would like to keep your ATP then we encourage you to contact Health Canada to inquire how to do so. If you would like to enter into the new system then you must purchase from an LP.

I want to renew in the old system.

Unfortunately, we are unable to renew in the old MMAR system. If you would like to enter into the new system, we would be happy to help in the process. If you would like to inquire about remaining in the old system, we encourage you to contact Health Canada directly to determine how to proceed.

I was turned down from the old MMAR system, does that mean I can’t register in the new MMPR system either?

No. You may be able to enter into the new system. The MMAR system only encompassed specific conditions that would qualify for authorization. The MMPR system gives the ability to allow authorization for more conditions, given supporting representation of the diagnosis.

Do I have to inform my family doctor?


No. It is your choice if you would like to inform your other health care practitioners. However, the doctor here will not become your GP to help you with other related matters, it is strictly for marijuana authorization. We will not be contacting any other practitioners to inform them of your decision.

Will I have to let my work know? Can I use medicinal marijuana at work?

No. You cannot work under the influence of marijuana. Even though it is legal, it falls under the same category as alcohol use. You would not be able to drink and go to work so you are not able to use marijuana and go to work. It is your choice if you would like to inform them.

Can I drive after using medicinal marijuana?

No. You cannot drive under the influence of marijuana. Even though it is legal, it falls under the same category as alcohol use. You would not be able to drink and drive so you are not able to use marijuana and drive, you are still driving under the influence.

Do you have a doctor in my area? I’d like an in office appointment.

If you are unable to visit our location in person we can provide you with an online appointment using our secure video service.  Telemedicine is a safe and effective way to reach patients all across Canada.  All you need is a Smartphone, Tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone and we can easily connect with you.

Does the doctor oversee my progress or help me stop taking my other medications?

No. The doctor is not taking you on as a patient within a General Practice. He is seeing you for only the purpose of the authorization for cannabis use. If you are uncomfortable weaning off your current prescriptions on your own, you should consult with your family physician.

Is it going to make me feel high? Can I get one that does not make me high?

Not necessarily. The component of marijuana that makes people feel high is the THC. The component that helps with pain is the CBD. There are strains available with very low THC so the effect of feeling “high” is limited. We encourage you to speak with a representative of a LP for more information on strains of marijuana offered and the effects.

What if I am travelling with marijuana/caught with marijuana on me?

You may only travel within Canada with your medicinal marijuana. If you are travelling outside your home with possession of marijuana, it must be in the original packaging sent by the LP and you must have the verification card on you. These 2 things make marijuana possession legal for you.

Can I increase my dosage?

You can request to increase your dosage at a reassessment appointment. There are no dosage increases within the first 3 months after an appointment. There are also no dosage increases without an appointment.
